Maritime Safety & Compliance

A focused program that links international regulations, company procedures and day-to-day behaviour onboard ships and across maritime operations.

Program Snapshot

Turns “rules and paperwork” into practical routines and decisions that protect people, assets, cargo and reputation.

Ideal For
Ship & shore-based staff
Crew, HSE, operations
Learning Style
Explainers, scenarios & drills
Outcome
Stronger safety culture & compliance
Audit-ready mindset
What Participants Will Learn

The program simplifies key maritime rules and shows how they translate into everyday behaviour and documentation.

  • Understand the purpose of major international maritime conventions in simple language.
  • Connect company Safety Management Systems (SMS) with daily routines onboard and ashore.
  • Recognise typical safety gaps before they become non-conformities or incidents.
  • Prepare for inspections and audits in a calm, structured way.
  • Use checklists and reports as tools for learning, not just paperwork.
Who Should Attend

Suitable for mixed cohorts from ship and shore so everyone hears the same message and expectations.

  • Deck and engine officers, ratings and cadets.
  • HSE / safety officers and compliance coordinators.
  • Marine and operations teams at shore offices or ports.
  • New joiners in maritime roles needing a structured safety orientation.

Curriculum Overview

Four modules that move from “why rules exist” to “how we act differently tomorrow”.

1
Safety & Compliance – The Big Picture
Why maritime safety matters for people, environment and business. Overview of key conventions (e.g. safety, pollution, training) explained in everyday language. How flag, class, port state and company fit together.
2
From Rules to Routines – SMS in Practice
How Safety Management Systems translate into checklists, permits, toolbox talks and procedures. What “doing it properly” looks like during mooring, bunkering, cargo work, navigation and engine-room routines.
3
Incidents, Near Misses & Reporting Culture
Reading real incident patterns: what actually goes wrong and why. Role of near-miss reporting, risk assessments and stop-work authority. Turning reports into learning instead of blame.
4
Inspections, Audits & Everyday Readiness
Preparing for port state control, vetting, internal audits and customer inspections. Simple self-check routines, documentation discipline and behaviour during inspections. Personal safety & compliance commitments from each participant.
